FAQ

Q: What if I disagree with an answer the host has given for a particular question?

A: At Pour House, I assure you that we put hours of research into writing our question sets. We make every effort to be factually correct. We also do not ever try and do "trick" questions or misleading questions or ambiguous questions. Our intent is to provide entertaining, engaging questions that are solid, in fact. With that said, being the humans that we are, every now and again we come up short of our goal. If you believe the host has given an incorrect answer, please wait until the round break to talk with him/ her. Please approach them politely and let them know your concerns. At this point, explain the facts and provide some sort of proof for your argument. This proof will most likely be through the internet (most venues have internet access for the hosts; if it does not, a smart phone will do the trick). The host will take into account your argument and balance it against the facts presented through the internet research and render a decision. It is difficult to describe how every possible scenario will play out, but I assure you that our priority is to be fair.

Q: I see that other teams have more points than mine at other venues. Does that affect my chances of getting into playoffs or world series?

A: Nope. You are only competing with teams at your home venue for a spot in the playoffs and/or WS.

Q: If I play at a second venue do my WS points carry over to my home venue?

A: No. But...if you play at a second venue you can bypass the playoffs and go directly to the WS by doing this: Earn 115 points at a second venue AND earn a playoff invite at EITHER venue. NOTE: Your home venue is the venue is the venue one that you earned the most points at. So you would need 115 at a 2nd venue in order to qualify for World Series through the double venue option.

Q: Can you explain how you are choosing playoff teams?

A: Yep. At the end of 16 weeks (or so) I will calculate the average amount of teams per night at a particular venue. From this number I will take about 60% of that number and invite that many otherwise uninvited teams to the playoffs. So, in other words, if a venue has an average of 10 teams per night, the top 6 will get a playoff invite. The house champion at each venue receives a playoff bye and gets invited directly into the World Series.

Q: If I make the playoffs, can I invite my cousin who is a Rhodes scholar and a previous Jeopardy winner onto my team?

A: You can. However, anyone you invite onto your team in playoff or World Series rounds MUST have played at least 4 nightly matches during a season. So, in other words, if your friend is a great trivia player and all around smartie, great. If he/she plays 4 nights of Pour House trivia they can be invited to your team at the playoff level.

Q: Can my team merge with another team at the end of the season for playoffs? Or, what if there is a player I want on my team that did not make the playoffs, can he play on my team for playoffs?

A: The Free Agent rule is this: If someone has played 4 nightly trivia events during regular season play they are essentially free agents. So what that means is, yes, a team can merge with another team  at any time before playoffs. An individual may play on any team they want before playoffs. At playoffs, the team roster must consist of members that have all played at least 4 nightly matches of Pour House Trivia - i.e. this person is a free agent and may join any team they want. At World Series, no new team members may be added. Everyone who plays on the World Series team must have been registered to be on that team at the playoffs. If your team bypassed the playoffs, then your World Series team roster must consist of up to 7 players that have played on your team during the season or fit into the Free Agent category described above (provided the free agent did not play in playoffs under a different team name).

Q: What happens if there is a holiday and our home venue misses a week?

A: All venues will get at least 15 weeks of point accumulation. If a night is canceled due to weather, holiday, etc. then we will make it up before the playoffs on another regular night. In the end, you are competing with teams from your home venue before the playoffs so everyone from one venue will have the same amount of games played as other teams from that paricular venue.

Q: Does adult trivia have any bearing on my Pour House Points?

A: No. Adult trivia is just for late night fun. In fact, I often suggest teams use a different name for adult trivia and regular trivia.

Q: What happens after world series is done?

A: Well, after WSI we begin nighly events for WSII. There are 2 World Series Events each year and I hope this goes on forever and ever :)

Q: I've heard you mention that I can submit questions for use in a game. How does that work?

A: Yes. Any one may submit a question to me at dgrizzjr@aol.com. I may or may not use it. If i do, and you happen to be at the event that i use it at, your team will not need to answer it and you earn an automatic 3 points on the question. You may not use this question as your Bonus category.
